Jeffrey K. Lum is a Professor of Anthropology and Biological Sciences at Binghamton University, and Director of the Laboratory of Evolutionary Anthropology and Health (LEAH). His work bridges molecular anthropology with evolutionary biology, focusing on genetic characteristics of Pacific Island populations, malaria drug resistance evolution, and epidemiological studies in Melanesia, Southeast Asia, and Africa. He also investigates modernization's impact on health, ancient DNA, microbial mineral communities, forensic genetics, and diet-behavior-microbiome interactions.
Education: PhD from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa.
Roles: Director of LEAH Lab.
Research interests include molecular anthropology, forensic genetics, malaria epidemiology in Melanesia, and the evolutionary dynamics of infectious diseases. His interdisciplinary work connects genetic studies with anthropological and ecological contexts, addressing both historical and contemporary health challenges. Current projects explore interactions between technological adoption and chronic disease prevalence using molecular tools.
