Jeffrey Atkinson

Jeffrey Atkinson is Professor of Chemistry at Brock University, leading a research program in bioorganic chemistry. Work combines organic synthesis with lipid biochemistry to investigate vitamin E biokinetics, tocopherol transfer protein mechanisms, and phospholipid-protein interactions.

Current projects develop fluorescent tocopherol derivatives for neural imaging, inhibitors of tocopherol metabolism, and membrane-spanning bola-phospholipids. Research employs FRET assays and surface plasmon resonance to analyze protein-membrane recognition.
