Neale D. Ridgway is a Professor in both the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Dalhousie University, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine. He has held this position since 1991 and is based at the Clinical Research Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His research focuses on lipid metabolism, particularly cholesterol homeostasis and the role of phospholipids in cell survival and cancer biology.
Education: PhD from the University of British Columbia.
Research Interests: Dr. Ridgway investigates intracellular cholesterol transport pathways mediated by oxysterol binding proteins (OSBPs), lipid synthesis regulation via CTP:phosphocholine cytidylyltransferase (CCT), and the nucleoplasmic reticulum’s role in calcium signaling and nuclear membrane dynamics. His work explores how these pathways impact cardiovascular disease, cancer cell proliferation, and apoptosis.
Lab Members: Current team includes technicians, lab managers, honours students, and postdocs such as Anna Naug, Kexin Zhao, and Murtaza Lokhandwala. Research spans structural biology, biochemical assays, and cellular models.
Publications: Over 30 peer-reviewed articles since 2017, focusing on cholesterol transport, lipid signaling, and cancer metabolism. Key topics include ORP protein functions, CCT nuclear localization, and lipid droplet biogenesis.
Grants & Awards: While no specific awards are listed, his sustained research output indicates competitive grant funding in lipid biology and cell signaling.
