Jeffrey Altenburg serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law. He has been a Milwaukee County Assistant District Attorney since 1997, advancing to Deputy District Attorney in 2008. His roles include supervising General Crimes, Community Prosecution, Early Interventions Program, and Drug Treatment Court. He co-developed Milwaukee County's Gun Court and contributed to Project Safe Neighborhoods.
Education: BA in Political Science from Marquette University (1986), JD from University of Wisconsin-Madison (1991).
Research focuses on community prosecution, alternatives to incarceration, and evidence-based decision-making. He led Milwaukee County’s participation in the National Institute of Corrections' Evidence-Based Decision Making Initiative, establishing the nationally recognized Early Intervention Program.
Awarded Assistant District Attorney of the Year (2007) for contributions to community prosecution and diversion programs.
His career emphasizes innovative criminal justice strategies, including prosecution-led diversion programs and early interventions to reduce recidivism.
