Jeff Martin is an Associate Librarian at the University of Michigan's University Library and a faculty member at the Center for South Asian Studies (CSAS). He specializes in acquisitions and reference services for South Asian Studies and Anthropology, serving both the U-M community and global researchers. His academic background includes an MLS from Syracuse University and anthropological fieldwork in Orissa, India, supported by a Fulbright Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship. He is affiliated with the South Asia Department and the International Institute.
Education: Master of Library Science (M.L.S.), Syracuse University. Research interests include folk conceptions of mental disorders in Orissa, Hindi, and anthropological studies in the region. He has extensive experience in language preservation, particularly expanding Oriya language collections at U-M, one of few universities actively doing so. Professional recognitions include a FLAS fellowship for Hindi study and a Fulbright grant.
Advising and Grants: His work supports academic research through library acquisitions and consultation. His past grants include the Fulbright and FLAS fellowships, which funded his fieldwork and language studies. He collaborates with the International Institute and other units to advance South Asian studies.
