Syed Ekhteyar Ali

Syed Ekhteyar Ali is a Teaching Professor and Lecturer IV in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan. He holds a Ph.D. from Aligarh Muslim University, India (1999). His research focuses on Urdu/Hindi phonology within the Columbia School of Linguistics framework, Hindi-Urdu grammar and pedagogy, linguistics, and communication studies. He also analyzes language use in Indian cinema, TV serials, and plays. Ali directs the South Asian Language Program and emphasizes integrating culture, technology, and communicative competence in language teaching.
