Dr. Jeff Hayton serves as Associate Professor of Modern European History and Undergraduate Coordinator in the Department of History at Wichita State University's Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2013), with M.A. and B.A. degrees from McMaster University (2003 and 2002 respectively).
Specializing in Modern German history, his research spans cultural history, punk rock's role in East/West Germany, Cold War societal dynamics, and mountaineering in the German Democratic Republic. His 2022 Oxford University Press monograph Culture from the Slums: Punk Rock in East and West Germany established significant scholarly contributions, with ongoing work examining mountains in GDR history.
As Undergraduate Coordinator, he directs academic programming for history majors while maintaining active research output in European cultural studies.
