Jeff Coker serves as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Professor of History at Shenandoah University. He concurrently acts as Interim Dean of the School of Business. Employed since 2015, Coker holds leadership roles overseeing academic programs in sciences, humanities, and social sciences. His academic background includes a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.A. from Texas State University-San Marcos, and a Ph.D. from Ohio University.
Research interests focus on U.S. intellectual and cultural history, 20th-century politics, and modern African history. He has authored three books and numerous articles, with expertise in political biography and labor movements. Professional highlights include NEH reviews, College Board consultations, and international speaking engagements on higher education challenges. He advises student organizations, mentors undergraduate research, and oversees graduate thesis committees.
Community involvement includes roles on the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley Board and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) board. Awards include Ohio University’s Distinguished Alumnus honor (2007).
