Jeannie Shoveller, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology at Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Medicine, and serves as Vice-President Research at Nova Scotia Health. She holds leadership roles in research governance and ethics, including membership on the Faculty of Medicine’s Appointments, Promotion & Tenure Committee and Dalhousie’s Health Sciences Ethics Board. Dr. Shoveller’s research focuses on social health systems, child/youth health, gender/sexual health equity, and substance use, with international collaborations in Brazil and France. She has held prominent roles in British Columbia, including Directorships at the BC Centre on Substance Use, the BC HIV Drug Treatment Program, and the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP).

Her research interests emphasize health systems data and policy impact, particularly in vulnerable populations. She co-leads the development of Dalhousie’s Public Health & Preventive Medicine Division and chairs France’s INCa Advisory Panels on Cancer Prevention.
Dr. Shoveller has been recognized with numerous awards, including Canadian Academy of Health Sciences membership (2015), acknowledging her transformative leadership in public health. She advises national and international health bodies, including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and UNAIDS.
