Dr. Jeannie Morgan is an Assistant Professor in Indigenous Studies at Simon Fraser University, cross-appointed with the Labour Studies Program. She is a member of the Nisga’a Nation with over 20 years of experience working with Indigenous communities.
Educational Background: She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of British Columbia and an MA in Sociology from Simon Fraser University.
Research Focus: Morgan specializes in analyzing how federal and provincial policies shape intersections of health, wellbeing, and labor for Indigenous communities. Her work integrates academic expertise with community-based initiatives, having collaborated with organizations like the First Nations Health Authority and Vancouver School Board.
Publications: Her research outputs critically examine media representations of sex workers, reproductive justice for Indigenous women, and labor precarity. Methodologically, she employs discourse analysis, qualitative fieldwork, and policy critique.
Teaching: Current courses include INDG 250: Introduction to Indigenous Policy and LBST 305: Gendering Economy: Paid and Unpaid Labour.
