Jeanne Sewell

Jeanne Sewell serves as Assistant Professor of Nursing at Georgia College & State University within the College of Nursing. She is the Editor of the MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resources for Learning and Online Education) Health Sciences Editorial Board and has been actively contributing to nursing education since joining the faculty in 1991.

Her educational background includes a BSN in Nursing from Medical College of Georgia (1974), MSN in Nursing Administration with a minor in Medical-Surgical Nursing from University of Maryland (1983), and Post-Masters work in Nursing Informatics from Duke University (1997).

Dr. Sewell specializes in nursing informatics, with research interests focused on education effectiveness in nursing education, technology to leverage learning in higher education, and open educational resources. Her clinical background is in medical-surgical nursing, and she has expertise in healthcare informatics, nursing administration, and legal & ethical issues in nursing.

Her publication record includes the textbook "Informatics and Nursing: Opportunities & Challenges" (co-authored with Linda Thede) and several articles on nursing program assessment and evidence-based decision making. Her work demonstrates a strong focus on integrating technology into nursing curricula and improving educational outcomes through data-driven approaches.

She is an active member of professional organizations including the American Nursing Informatics Association (since 2013), American Medical Informatics Association (since 2007), and American Nurses Association (since 1992).

Dr. Sewell teaches courses including Health Science Informatics, Integrated Clinical Competencies, and Computer Applications for Nursing, with a particular emphasis on how technology supports clinical, administrative, and educational decision-making in healthcare settings.
