Jeanne Coonan serves as an Adjunct Professor of Music Education at Roberts Wesleyan College and Nazareth College, teaching Woodwind Methods courses (MUS 235/236). With over 35 years of public school instrumental music experience in upstate New York, she has directed elementary through high school bands and provided string lessons and general music instruction.
Her academic credentials include:

- Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Bassoon | Eastman School of Music
Specializing in K-12 instrumental music education, Coonan focuses on woodwind pedagogy, wind ensemble development, and innovative band direction techniques. Her expertise stems from decades of classroom practice and performance experience as a bassoonist, emphasizing practical application of music education theory in diverse educational settings.
Her distinguished recognition includes:
- Rochester Philharmonic Outstanding Music Educator Award for Band (2017)
- Superior ratings at Annapolis, MD Music Festival (1996, 1998, 2007)
Coonan actively contributes to music education through performance with the Roberts Wesleyan College-Community Orchestra and Penfield Symphony. Her leadership extends to co-founding the Hochstein Junior Wind Symphony and Hochstein Youth Wind Symphony, providing advanced performance opportunities for young musicians. Additionally, she holds a Certificate in Labor Studies from Cornell University and has served in elected roles for the Webster Teachers' Association and New York State United Teachers, while maintaining national involvement as a drum corps and marching band adjudicator.
