Jesse Schartz is the Assistant Teaching Professor of Bassoon at The Ohio State University School of Music, combining a distinguished military music career with extensive pedagogical experience. He holds a BM in Performance from the University of Arkansas, an MA in Adult Education from the University of Phoenix, and an MM in Performance from The Ohio State University.
His expertise spans bassoon pedagogy, chamber coaching, and woodwind literature. Schartz’s performance career includes two decades with the United States Air Force Bands as principal bassoonist and music director of chamber ensembles, producing nine studio albums. He has performed in 20+ countries across Europe and the Middle East, and collaborates with orchestras like the Columbus Symphony and Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Beyond classical music, he explored blues fusion with the Jason Cale Band.
As an educator, Schartz has taught at Ohio Wesleyan University, led masterclasses, and coached honor ensembles. He emphasizes creativity, technical fundamentals, and adaptability in his teaching. Currently, he serves as principal bassoonist of the Central Ohio Symphony and maintains an active freelance career.
