Jean-Yves Paul

Dr Jean-Yves Paul is a Senior Research Fellow at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), affiliated with the School of Biology & Environmental Science within the Faculty of Science. He leads the Banana21 biofortification program aimed at addressing vitamin A deficiency in Uganda through genetically modified (GM) banana development. His research focuses on improving carotenoid content and disease resistance in bananas, particularly against Fusarium wilt, using genetic modification and gene editing. He has extensive experience designing and managing GM banana field trials in Australia and Uganda, and contributes to food safety assessments for GM crops. Dr Paul holds a PhD from QUT (2009) and has over a decade of postdoctoral experience in agricultural biotechnology. His work spans metabolic pathway manipulation, transgenic crop development, and regulatory science.
