Professor Jean Webb is a Professor of International Children's Literature at the University of Worcester's Department of English Media and Culture. She directs the International Forum for Research in Childrens Literature, focusing on global scholarly analysis of children's literature. Her teaching spans 19th-20th century literature and specialized modules in children's literature. She is an experienced PhD supervisor and examiner. Research interests include cultural and socio-historical aspects of children's literature, with a focus on food symbolism, health narratives, environmental themes, and fantasy elements. She has held roles on international academic boards including the International Research Society for Children's Literature and the Children's Literature Association, India.
Key publications include co-authored works on literary history and edited volumes on authors like George MacDonald. Her recent work explores disability representation in children’s literature for the Cambridge History of Children’s Literature in English. She contributed to the British Academy project 'Reading Fictions' (2011-2014), examining literacy perceptions in children's literature.
