Jean Robillard is a Professor at TÉLUQ University of Quebec (part of the University of Quebec network) with expertise spanning philosophy, communication studies, and cognitive sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Quebec in Montreal and serves as Director of the Research Workshops in Cognitive and Comparative Epistemology (ARECC).
His research focuses on four interconnected domains:
- Social cognition: examining relationships between social cognition and cultural forms, technological contexts, communication theories, knowledge management, and collective intelligence
- Computationality and logic: exploring logical foundations of cybernetic theories and informational theories of representation
- Theories of mind: investigating representation, intentionality, information, causality, and rationality at both individual and collective levels
- Epistemology: analyzing model theory, proof theory, causality, and the epistemological foundations of both social and natural sciences
Robillard's recent publications demonstrate an interdisciplinary approach bridging philosophy with information science and cognitive studies. His work shows consistent focus on how knowledge is structured, communicated, and transformed in both individual and collective contexts, with particular attention to the philosophical implications of digital communication technologies and semantic networks.
His scholarly contributions include:
- In Praise of Debate. For Speech Freed from Sectarianism (2021)
- Short Treatise on Error (2012)
- The Learned Society. Communication and Social Cognition (2011)
- Numerous articles on formal ontologies, knowledge management, and epistemology of social sciences
Currently, Robillard is working on Radical Materialism and the Theory of Knowledge and conducting research on collective rationality as an object of evolutionary theory and the epistemology of law.
