معرفی
Jean-Pierre Julien is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Laval University, holding the Canada Research Chair in Neurodegeneration. He serves as Director of the Integrative Neuroscience and Experimental Therapies axis, focusing on ALS and related neurodegenerative disorders.
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, McGill University
- Postdoctoral Fellow, National Institute for Medical Research (London, UK)
- Professor, Centre for Research in Neuroscience, McGill University (1989-2003)
- Canada Research Chair, Laval University (2003-present)
Dr. Julien's research addresses TDP-43 proteinopathy, neuroinflammation, and neurofilament biology in ALS pathogenesis. His lab develops transgenic mouse models and immunotherapeutic approaches, including single-chain antibodies and withanolide derivatives targeting NF-κB pathways.
Notable scientific contributions:
- First demonstration of neurofilament disorganization causing motor neuron degeneration
- Pioneering work on TDP-43/NF-κB interactions as therapeutic targets
- Development of novel withanolide compounds for clinical trials
- Identification of exosomal mechanisms in TDP-43 propagation
Scientific Awards:
- Sheila Essey Award (2000)
- Jonas Salk Award (2014)
- Prix Léo-Pariseau (2013)
- Fellow, Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (2009)
- Fellow, Royal Society of Canada (2016)
- Medaille du Jubilee (2012)
Trainees:
- Ph.D. Students: Vincent Picher-Martel, Sunny Kumar, Banshi Nath
- Postdoctoral Fellows: Kallol Dutta, Silvia Pozzi, Prakash Mishra, Pooja Shree Mishra, Senthil Krishnasamy
- Research Assistants: Daniel Phaneuf, Karine Plourde, Pierre Cordeau, Genevieve Soucy, Christine Bareil
Research Trends: Recent publications emphasize NF-κB inhibition, single-chain antibodies, and withanolide compounds for targeting TDP-43 pathology, alongside mechanistic studies on neurofilament dynamics and exosomal propagation in ALS/FTD.
