Jean-Paul Perrotte is an Associate Professor of Composition and Director of the Electro-Acoustic Lab at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), within the School of Music under the College of Liberal Arts. He also serves as Coordinator of Music Theory. Previously, he was a Visiting Instructor in Composition at the University of Iowa and taught at Kirkwood Community College.
Education: Ph.D. in Composition (University of Iowa, 2013), M.A. in Composition (University of Iowa, 2005), and B.M. in Jazz Composition (Berklee College of Music, 1991).
Research focuses on composition (acoustic and electronic), tonal/post-tonal music theory, and pop music theory. His works blend acoustic instruments with electro-acoustic elements, live electronics, and EEG data integration. Performances span international venues in Greece, Germany, Spain, Croatia, and the U.S.
Teaches courses including Music Theory III/IV, Form & Analysis, Orchestration, Composition (Electronic/Acoustic), and Contemporary Theory/Practice. Directs the Electro-Acoustic Lab, exploring interdisciplinary soundscapes.
