Jean Paul (J.P.) Gowdy is an Associate Professor of Physical Education and Head Coach for Men’s and Women’s Swimming at Pomona College since 2011. He has led both teams to multiple podium finishes in the SCIAC conference, including four second-place finishes for the women’s team and two second-place finishes for the men’s team.
His expertise spans:
- Coaching competitive swimming
- Teaching swimming at all levels
- Warmup Decrement research
- Character Development in athletics
Gowdy has received numerous honors, including:
- SCIAC Women's Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year (2014-15)
- NEWMAC Conference Coach of the Year (2009)
- ASCA Distinguished Coach Award (multiple years)
He also teaches courses such as Lifeguard Training, Beginning/Intermediate Swimming, and Triathlon Training.
