Jean McNeil is Professor of Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia's School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing. She serves on the Creative Writing Research Group and is a key member of the ClimateUEA initiative where she leads the 'Developing resilience through climate narrative' research pillar.

Jean McNeil's research focuses on creative writing approaches to climate change narratives, polar literature and history, contemporary African literature, environmental writing, and interdisciplinary collaborations between arts and sciences. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to climate action and quality education.
Her recent publications include climate change memoirs, novels exploring environmental themes, and collaborative art exhibition texts. She has received numerous awards including the Prism International Creative non-fiction competition and fellowships at prestigious institutions.

- Lead academic on Climate Narratives project within Climate@UEA
- Responsible for creative practice elements in 20 PhD projects through The Critical Decade For Climate Change DTP
Scientific Collaborations:
- Writer in residence with British Antarctic Survey (Antarctica)
- Scientific writing residencies in Falkland Islands, Svalbard, Greenland and Atlantic expeditions
- Co-created art exhibitions with Diego Ferrari and Bernardo Arce, including 'Day for Night: Landscapes of Walter Benjamin'
- Directed International Chair of Creative Writing Africa Year projects across East and Southern Africa
