Jean Marchand serves as Course Instructor in Collaborative Piano, Piano Ensembles, and String/Mixed Ensembles at McGill University's Schulich School of Music. An accomplished pianist and actor, he merges performance disciplines through innovative pedagogical approaches. His performance career spans North America and Europe, featuring collaborations with artists like Matt Haimovitz, Ida Haendel, and Jessye Norman.
Research interests include contemporary music interpretation, having premiered works by Quebec composers Jean Lesage and Raymond Daveluy. His teaching integrates Strasberg and Lion acting techniques to develop musical expressiveness and authenticity.
Education includes a First Prize from Conservatoire de musique de Montréal under Irving Heller, with further studies under Karl Engel. Professional roles include presidency of l’Académie de musique du Québec (2005-2008) and co-direction of the Prix d’Europe competition.
