Dr. Jean Hopman is a Lecturer in the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies (GUSS) at RMIT University, within the College of Design and Social Context. She holds a Bachelor of Primary and Secondary Education and a Graduate Diploma in Child & Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. Her research focuses on emotional dynamics in educational and human service contexts, including teacher wellbeing, reflexive practice, and professional identity development. Jean has extensive industry experience in diverse educational settings, spanning government, private, international, and community-based institutions.
Her academic positions include Lecturer roles at RMIT (2023–present) and Victoria University (2018–2023). She currently co-coordinates units such as HUSO2164 Self, Identity and Agency and HUSO2391 Society and Psychology Capstone, and manages the Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) program. Jean has supervised multiple research students, including primary and associate supervisions on topics like inclusive education policy and teacher experiences with student behavioral challenges.
Her research interests emphasize exploring emotion’s role in professional practice and identity formation, leveraging a reflexive framework to address challenges in social work and education. Jean’s work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health), 4 (Quality Education), and 11 (Sustainable Cities).
