Dr. Jean Harris-Evans is a Senior Research Fellow (part-time) at the Sheffield Institute of Education, Sheffield Hallam University, and an Associate Lecturer in Education. She holds degrees including a BA Hons (Dunelm), MSc, EdD, and Dip HE (JNC), with SFHEA status. Her research focuses on marginalized youth, particularly care leavers, professional practice in youth work, and leadership in educational contexts. She has extensive experience in higher education management, previously serving as Vice Principal for Higher Education at The Sheffield College.

Her specialist interests include management and leadership in youth work, quality assurance, outdoor risk management, and professional formation of youth workers. She teaches on courses like PGCE Education, Master’s in Education, and Childhood Studies, supervising students on modules such as Research Project and Teach First Leadership Project.
Her research involves evaluating interventions for care leavers and exploring adventure learning’s impact through projects like DfE Family Hubs and the Education Endowment Foundation’s Adventure Learning Trail. She also serves as an external examiner at Huddersfield University and Hull University.
Dr. Harris-Evans’ career spans 16 years in academic roles at Sheffield Hallam, including Principal Lecturer positions, and includes prior youth work practice in South Yorkshire and London.
