Dr. Jean Bruce is a Professor in the School of Image Arts at Toronto Metropolitan University and serves as the Associate Dean, Graduate Education for the Creative School. She holds a Ph.D. from Concordia University, an M.A. in Theory & Criticism from the University of Western Ontario, and a B.A. (Honours) in Film Studies from Brock University.
Her research focuses on melodrama, affect, and sexuality in Canadian cinema; early Quebec cinema; ethnographic cinema; transnational reality television; and advertising culture. She has secured grants from internal university programs and Canada's tri-council funding agencies to support this work.
As Associate Dean, she oversees graduate education strategy across the Creative School. Her teaching spans undergraduate and graduate courses in film, cultural studies, and new media.
