Jean Banyanga is affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities, Psychology and Theology at Åbo Akademi University. His research focuses on the intersection of religion, culture, and migration, particularly among Sub-Saharan African communities in Nordic and European contexts.
Key research areas include identity formation among Christian diasporas, cross-cultural spirituality, mental health challenges faced by African migrants, and language dynamics in youth ethnic conflicts. He has conducted comparative studies between Finland and Belgium regarding Rwandan diaspora experiences.
Since 2017, Banyanga has published extensively, including a 2019 doctoral thesis titled Social Suffering and Healing Among the Rwandan Diaspora. His work often employs interdisciplinary methods, combining theological analysis with sociological and psychological frameworks.
