Jayne Smith is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Promotion at the University of Sunderland, part of the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries. She joined in 2019 after roles at the University of Hertfordshire and Heriot-Watt University, where she developed teaching strategies for the global fashion industry. Her expertise includes garment assembly and pattern cutting, reflected in her published book Guide to Basic Garment Assembly for the Fashion Industry. Research focuses on sustainable textiles, zero-waste fashion, and pedagogical innovations in blended learning, with international collaborations in Sweden, Vietnam, Dubai, China, and Europe. She advocates creative approaches to design through material experimentation and has established an eco-friendly ecommerce venture using environmental textiles.
