Dr. Danmei Sun is an Associate Professor in Advanced Textile Materials & Engineering at Heriot-Watt University's School of Textiles & Design. She holds a BSc in Textile Engineering from Qingdao University and has 12 years of industry experience before completing her PhD on sustainable textile dyeing at Heriot-Watt. Her postdoctoral research at Manchester University focused on 2D/3D fabric development for ballistic protection. She joined Heriot-Watt in 2010 as an Assistant Professor, advancing to her current role.

Research Interests: Functional polymers, recycling/upcycling textiles, 3D printing, thermal management, plasma technology, and protective textiles. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing eco-friendly practices and material innovation.
Awards: Recipient of the 2010 Most Cited Articles award from the Journal of Materials Processing Technology. Her research has been funded by UK Dstl/MoD, Oil and Gas Innovation Centre, and Scottish Funding Council.
