Jayne McGuire is a Professor at Cal Poly Humboldt within the School of Applied Health, specializing in inclusive education and disability studies. She teaches across multiple programs including Recreation Administration, Adapted Physical Education, and Special Education. Her research focuses on self-determination, inclusion, and barriers in coaching individuals with disabilities. She holds a B.S. in Therapeutic Recreation from Southern Illinois University, and both M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Utah. As a Fulbright Scholar (2017), she collaborated with the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago.
Her teaching portfolio includes courses like Inclusive Recreation, Leisure Programming, and Movement for Students with Severe Disabilities. She actively collaborates with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Student Disability Resource Center, and local municipalities to advance inclusive practices. Her work integrates pedagogical innovation, community-based learning, and adaptive programming.
Dr. McGuire’s research emphasizes adult outcomes for individuals with disabilities, quality of life through recreation, and coach training in inclusive environments. She consults with schools and recreation organizations to design accessible programs, reflecting her commitment to universal design principles.
