Jayakumar Gilbert is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of Chemistry at Temple University's College of Science and Technology. He teaches undergraduate chemistry courses including General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and specialized laboratories in Inorganic Synthesis and Instrumental Design.
His education includes a Ph.D. from Drexel University (2000), M.S. from Drexel University (1996), and BS/M.Phil. from Bharathidasan University, India (1987).
Research focuses on designing multidentate ligands containing nitrogen, sulfur and oxygen donors, and studying their copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes to understand their role in enzymatic processes. Key interests include bioinorganic chemistry and metalloenzyme mechanisms.
While no awards are listed, Dr. Gilbert maintains an active research program studying transition metal complexes relevant to biological systems.
