Jaya Trivedi

Jaya Trivedi, M.D., is a Clinical Professor and Vice Chair for Ambulatory Operations and External Relations in the Department of Neurology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in neuromuscular disorders, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophy, and skeletal muscle channelopathies. Her clinical interests focus on improving diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for neuromuscular diseases, particularly through multi-center clinical trials and biomarker research.

Dr. Trivedi’s research emphasizes translational medicine, including her role as co-PI of an NIH-funded Wellstone Training Core grant to train future neuromuscular investigators. She is part of the FSHD Clinical Trial Research Network (FSHD CTRN), advancing studies on facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy. Her work has contributed to landmark trials on non-dystrophic myotonia and periodic paralysis, with notable publications on denture cream-induced neurological issues and natural history studies in neuromuscular disorders.

Her teaching activities include directing the ACGME-accredited Neuromuscular Medicine Fellowship Program and organizing annual CME conferences like the Brain Summit. She mentors residents and fellows, many of whom pursue academic careers. Dr. Trivedi holds leadership roles in professional organizations, including the Texas Neurological Society, and has received prestigious teaching awards, such as the Trephined Cranium Award (twice).

Her research spans clinical trials, pharmacological interventions (e.g., eculizumab for myasthenia gravis), and biomarker development for ALS. She also investigates rare diseases like late-onset Pompe disease and explores the impact of dietary factors on ALS progression.
