Jay McLellan

Jay McLellan is a Professor and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Queen's University. He holds cross-appointments in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the Dan School of Drama and Music. As Academic Director of the Dunin-Deshpande Queen’s Innovation Centre (DDQIC), he drives entrepreneurship programming and fosters Kingston's innovation ecosystem. His academic career spans teaching excellence, recognized by awards including the Frank Knox Award and provincial teaching accolades.

Dr. McLellan (Queen's B.Sc. 1981, Ph.D. 1990) bridges technical and creative fields through collaborations in pedagogy, innovation, and interdisciplinary research. He actively engages with the Kingston arts community, performing with the Kingston Symphony Orchestra, Blue Swing Jazz Quartet, and 20th Century Jazz Band.

His work emphasizes entrepreneurship education, technology transfer, and integrating arts into engineering pedagogy. He collaborates with regional stakeholders to strengthen startup culture and academic-industry partnerships.
