Jay Harvey

Jay Harvey is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Neurology at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Medical Director of the EEG and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at Parkland Hospital. He joined UTSW initially in 1994, left briefly to help establish Level 4 epilepsy centers in North Dallas, and returned in 2017. His expertise spans refractory epilepsy management, surgical interventions, neuromodulation, and invasive EEG monitoring. Dr. Harvey’s research focuses on clinical drug/device trials and advancing seizure detection technologies, including wearable systems and SEEG analysis. He leads programs integrating clinical care with cutting-edge research to improve epilepsy treatment outcomes.

His work emphasizes innovative solutions such as ear-worn seizure detection devices and platform-agnostic biosignal compression for resource-limited devices. He has contributed to studies on interictal epileptiform discharges, bilateral seizure network analysis, and the efficacy of therapies like natalizumab. Dr. Harvey’s clinical leadership includes managing complex epilepsy cases and optimizing treatment strategies, particularly for multifocal and non-lesional temporal lobe epilepsy.

His research trends highlight a shift toward personalized seizure monitoring, AI-driven neuroimaging analysis, and overcoming challenges in wearable medical device implementation.
