University of North Carolina at Chapel Hillمعرفی
Jay Brenman, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at the UNC School of Medicine. His research focuses on the role of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in energy balance, neurodegeneration, metabolic disorders, and cancer. He holds affiliations with the Cell Biology & Physiology Curriculum and Neuroscience Curriculum at UNC-Chapel Hill.
- Education:
- B.S., University of California at Berkeley, 1992
- Ph.D., University of California at San Francisco, 1997
His lab investigates AMPK’s role in cellular survival under stress, neurodegenerative pathways, and metabolic syndrome. Recent work includes studies on carbonic anhydrase-3 (Car3) as a biomarker for obesity and fatty liver disease. Brenman employs Drosophila genetics, mouse models, and biochemistry to identify novel AMPK-regulated molecules.
He has completed extensive training in mentorship and diversity, including OGE Faculty Mentoring Workshop, Racial Equity Institute (REI) training, and Culturally Aware Mentoring (CAM) Workshop.
