Jay Borkland is a Part-time Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Tufts University. He is also a marine and environmental scientist, geophysicist, geo-engineer, and offshore energy specialist with over 30 years of industry experience. He serves as principal and part-owner of a national environmental and engineering firm.
Education:
- Master of Arts, SUNY University, USA (1986)
- Bachelor of Science, University of New Hampshire, USA (1982)
Research Interests: Focuses on contaminated sediment remediation, coastal infrastructure design, offshore wind energy, coastal resiliency against climate change, and geophysical assessments of coastlines. His work integrates environmental protection with engineering solutions for ports, marine terminals, and offshore wind farm development.
Grants & Projects:
- Lead project director for major geo-environmental projects including Boston's Central Artery/Tunnel Project and Love Canal Superfund Site.
- Recipient of a $125M grant (as team member) for coastal resilience in Nassau County through Rebuild by Design (Obama administration).
- Current member of Massachusetts Research Partnership for U.S. offshore wind standards.
Labs & Teams: Active in Tufts' collaboration with the Massachusetts Research Partnership for offshore wind innovation.
