Jay Balante is a Lecturer in Nursing at the Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Sydney, and a PhD Candidate at the Daffodil Centre, Cancer Care Research Unit. His academic roles include coordinating units such as NURS3012 (Life-limiting Conditions and Palliation) and SNGP3001 (Comprehensive Nursing Assessment). He holds qualifications including BSN, MAN (Adult Health Nursing), GradCertClinEd, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
His research focuses on cultural attitudes of internationally educated nurses in cancer and end-of-life care, supported by the Daffodil Centre Postgraduate Research Scholarship. Key interests include transcultural nursing, CALD workforce integration, and clinical education models. He has presented at conferences like the Asia Pacific Hospice and Palliative Care Conference (2023) and the International Council of Nurses Congress (2021).
Jay has received awards such as the Best Oral Presentation (APHC 2023) and the Edith Cavell Trust Scholarship (2016). His teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programs, emphasizing chronic care, palliative care, and health assessment. He has supervised Honours research and contributed to grants like the University of Sydney Strategic Education Grant for clinical debrief models and oral health integration projects.
