Javier Rodriguez is Associate Professor of Bassoon and Associate Director at the Lionel Hampton School of Music, University of Idaho, where he also serves as Director of Graduate Studies. He joined the faculty in 2014 and is a key figure in performance, research, and academic leadership within the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences.
His research focuses on commissioning and performing music from underrepresented composers. Rodriguez has been recognized with the CLASS Humanities Fellowship (2020) and the Presidential Mid-Career Excellence Award (2022) for his contributions to the humanities and music scholarship.
As a performer, he is a founding member of the Post-Haste Reed Duo (PHRD), which has performed nationally and internationally at conferences including the College Music Society (CMS), International Double Reed Society (IDRS), SEAMUS, and NASA. PHRD has released two critically acclaimed albums and served as Ensemble-in-Residence at several festivals.
His creative work includes commissioning pieces from composers such as Michael Gordon, Jenni Brandon, and Paul Taylor. During his 2022 sabbatical, he compiled the Nansi Carroll Collection, a significant body of works for bassoon now housed in the University of Idaho Libraries.

Rodriguez advises graduate students through his role as Director of Graduate Studies and mentors performers via ensembles and summer programs. He has taught at multiple music camps including the University of Idaho Summer Music Camp, Blue Lake, and Brevard Music Festival.
