Dr. Kristina Nelson is a bassoonist and educator affiliated with the University of South Alabama (Department of Music), University of West Florida, and Troy University. She teaches applied bassoon, woodwind ensembles, and woodwind methods courses for music education majors, while performing with the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra and Gulf Coast ensembles.

- Bachelor of Music in Bassoon Performance (University of Alabama, 2013)
Her research focuses on bassoon pedagogy, including a dissertation on Bill Douglas’s solo/chamber works and teaching methods at CalArts and Naropa University. She premiered Douglas’s Partita #3 (2022 IDRS conference) and Jenni Brandon’s Sun Songs (2024 IDRS conference).
Dr. Nelson attended elite summer festivals (Brevard Music Center, Chautauqua Institute, etc.) and established the “Bassoon Platoon” – a private studio with 30+ students from 6th grade through college.
