Javier Linares-Pastén is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer at the Division of Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology under the Lund University Faculty of Engineering. He is also a member of the LTH Profile Area: Food and Bio.
His research focuses on developing biocatalysts through computational methods and recombinant technology, emphasizing protein structure-function relationships for enzyme design and cell engineering. Applications span environmental biotechnology, food technology, biorefinery, and bioactive compound production, with specific projects on plastic degradation, biopolymer synthesis, lignocellulose valorization, and prebiotic/probiotic development.
Recent publications highlight his work in Food Science, Biotechnology, and Microbiology, including enzymatic production of bioactive compounds, metataxonomic studies of extremophiles, and genomic analyses of iron-uptake bacteria. His research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for environmental and industrial sustainability.
