Javier Garcia Fernandez is a Researcher at the University of Oslo's Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology, affiliated with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. His work focuses on advanced characterization techniques for transparent conducting oxides and gallium oxide materials. He holds a PhD in Advanced Chemistry from Complutense University of Madrid (2020) and completed postdoctoral research at CNRS-CEMES (2020-2021) and the University of Oslo (2021–present).
His research integrates high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS), and electron diffraction to study atomic-scale structural properties. He also investigates optical properties using cathodoluminescence (CL) and photoluminescence (PL) techniques. Key projects include the DIOGO (Disorder Induced Ordering in Gallium Oxide) and GoFIB (Gallium Oxide Fabrication with Ion Beams) initiatives.
Publications highlight contributions to understanding phase transformations, defect dynamics, and nanocrystal formation in gallium oxide systems. His work bridges materials synthesis, characterization, and application, with a focus on energy-related materials and nanotechnology.
Advising and grants: While no formal advisees are listed, Garcia Fernandez collaborates extensively on interdisciplinary projects. He is part of the Solid-state Physics and Quantum Technology research group at SMN.
