Dr. Javier Carreño is a Professor of Philosophy and Austria Faculty Chair at Franciscan University of Steubenville’s study abroad program in Austria. He leads the Austria Program and teaches core courses in the perennial tradition alongside specialized courses in English Literature and Theology. Born in Colombia, he became a Belgian citizen in 2008 and raises four children multilingually.
Education: PhD in Philosophy (2010) from Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), focusing on Husserl’s phenomenology. Dissertation: “The Time of Fiction: Edmund Husserl’s Phenomenology of Phantasy.” Also holds an MA (2003) and BA (2000) in Philosophy from Leuven and University of Dallas, with honors.
