Javier Auyero is the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Professor in Latin American Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin, where he serves in the College of Liberal Arts. His research focuses on urban marginality, political ethnography, and collective violence, funded by prestigious institutions including the Guggenheim Foundation, American Council of Learned Societies, and National Science Foundation. He directs the Urban Ethnography Lab and edits the Global and Comparative Ethnography Series at Oxford University Press.
