Javier Álvarez-Mon is a Professor in Near Eastern Archaeology and Art at Macquarie University's School of Humanities. Specializing in the art and archaeology of the ancient Near East, he is a leading expert on Elamite civilization (ca. 4200–525 BCE) and early Persian studies. His research explores Elamite art, military practices, funerary traditions, and cultural interactions with neighboring regions. He has authored over fifty articles and seminal books like The Art of Elam ca. 4200–525 BC (2020), which received international acclaim.
Education: École du Louvre (Paris) and University of California, Berkeley.

Advising & Grants: Co-led the Forgotten Empire project (2014–2018) and contributed to the MQRC Centre for Ancient Cultural Heritage and Environment (CACHE) (2019–2022). His research has generated over 50 publications and interdisciplinary collaborations across multiple countries.
Labs/Teams: Part of Macquarie University's Archaeology Research Group and the international CACHE network, focusing on ancient cultural heritage preservation and environmental archaeology.
