Prof. dr. Jasper Griffioen holds a part-time chair in Water Quality Management at Utrecht University's Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development. With expertise in environmental hydrology and geochemistry, his research addresses sustainable management of soil and water resources, examining impacts from agricultural, urban, and geo-energy activities. His work spans contamination studies, aquifer thermal storage, hydrogen storage, and environmental risk assessment across diverse geographical contexts.
Griffioen frequently serves on advisory committees including the Advisory Council Soil Protection and contributes expertise to Dutch and international policy reviews. His international research includes projects in Bangladesh, Nepal, Brazil and Uganda, with publications covering groundwater salinity, methane occurrence, and nutrient transport processes.
