Jason Wu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Indiana University, Bloomington. His research explores ideological structuration in authoritarian regimes, focusing on Chinese citizens' belief systems, historical legacies of repression, and the interplay between ideology and political participation.
His work analyzes how authoritarian regimes shape and disrupt ideological frameworks through propaganda, censorship, and repression. Key findings include the absence of coherent left-right ideological dimensions in China, the role of valence issues in political participation, and the enduring effects of state repression on nationalist attitudes and government trust over 25+ years.
Current projects include a book on ideology and public opinion in China. He collaborates with scholars like Scott Desposato, Cal Zurich, and Tianguang Meng, employing methods such as regression discontinuity and national survey analysis. His research has been featured in Political Research Quarterly, Comparative Politics, and Journal of Theoretical Politics.
