Jason Wilby is a Principal Lecturer of German and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the University of New Mexico (UNM). He is affiliated with the Department of Foreign Languages and actively involved in promoting German language education in New Mexico through roles such as Chapter President of the New Mexico AATG (American Association of Teachers of German). His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in German Literature from the University of California, Irvine, an MBA in Education from UNM, and an M.A. in German Philology from Georg-August-Universität Göttingen.
Research interests span 18th and 19th-century German literature and philosophy, gender studies, psychoanalysis in literature, and language pedagogy. He has published articles on topics like Lacanian theory in literature and innovative language teaching methods. His work has been recognized with awards such as the UNM Outstanding Lecturer of the Year (2014-2015) and the Gloria Flaherty Prize (2008).
Teaching responsibilities include courses like Intermediate German Conversation and Advanced German Literature. He coordinates the German Summer School Program and chairs the UNM Faculty Senate Admissions and Registration Committee. His service roles include advising in the Department of Foreign Languages and organizing graduate student conferences.
