Jason Olsthoorn is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Queen's University, affiliated with the Smith Engineering School. His research focuses on mixing and transport processes in environmental fluid dynamics, combining mathematical theory with numerical and laboratory experimentation. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2017), a Master of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo (2013), and a Bachelor's in Mathematical Physics from Waterloo (2012).
Key research interests include stratified mixing, internal waves, vortex dynamics, and their applications in limnology, coastal oceanography, and climate systems.
