Jason Kido Lopez is an Assistant Professor in Media and Cultural Studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His research examines sports media through critical/cultural perspectives and philosophical ethics frameworks, focusing on athlete expression, sports gaming ecosystems, and media industry practices.
Research interests include normative dimensions of sports media genres, athlete-brand relationships in activism contexts, and historical/commercial aspects of fantasy sports, sports betting, and video games. Current projects analyze cultural relationships between sports organizations, media industries, and gaming platforms.
Publications explore athlete activism branding, Olympic betting commercialization, and political campaign gambling metaphors. Teaching includes courses on sports media history, race/ethnicity in media, and ethics of entertainment.
