His roles include serving as Chair of the College's Standing Committee on Curricular and Co-Curricular Reform for the First Year Engineering Experience. He teaches courses on civil engineering materials, green building materials, and has pioneered online education through Ecampus.
His research focuses on concrete durability, alkali-silica reaction (ASR) mitigation, sustainable infrastructure, and early-age volume stability. His group employs a multi-scale approach to translate fundamental research into practical applications, including improving ASR test methods and developing sustainable materials. Funding partners include NCHRP, CalTrans, EPRI, ARPA-E, and Imerys Aluminates.
Key awards include the 2013 Engelbrecht Young Faculty Award, 2011 PCA Education Fellowship, and 2008 Kearney Endowed Faculty. He co-edits ASTM’s Advances in Cement-Based Materials and holds editorial roles in Cement and Concrete Research and ASTM C09.50.
His work extends to community initiatives, such as workshops on recycling construction waste to empower low-income communities in Colombia. Grant-funded projects address infrastructure renewal, ASR field studies, and carbon-neutral materials.
