Jason Hurdich is a Senior Lecturer of American Sign Language (ASL) at Clemson University's Department of Languages within the College of Arts and Humanities. He holds an M.Ed. in Signed Language Interpretation from the University of North Florida (2013) and a B.A. in Political Science from Boston University (1997). As a RID Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), he has over 30 years of experience in ASL education, interpreter training, and advocacy for Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities.
His research focuses on advancing accessibility through technology, including federal grants totaling ~$6M for projects like mobile signing dictionaries and lifelike avatars for K-12 learners. He has served as Secretary of the RID Board of Directors (2021–2024) and held leadership roles in organizations like SCVRDA and ASL Services, Inc. Awards include the 2021 Palmetto Goodwill State Champion and 2017 Marie Griffin Interpreter of the Year Award.
Professional service includes roles as a Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) Rater, Quality Assurance Evaluator, and community advocate. His teaching spans institutions like Eastern Kentucky University, University of Louisville, and Boston University. Outside academia, he manages social media and emergency preparedness initiatives through All Hands On South Carolina.
