Jason Houle is a Professor of Sociology at Dartmouth College, where he joined in July 2013. He serves as Chair of the Department of Sociology and is affiliated with the Quantitative Social Science Program. Houle earned his PhD in Sociology and Demography from The Pennsylvania State University in 2011, following MA (2007) and BA (2005) degrees there.

Houl's research focuses on:
- Social determinants of mental health and well-being
- Reproduction of socioeconomic inequalities across generations
- Role of historical and biographical time in social processes
- Intersections between debt, health, and inequality
His recent work explores how debt in young adulthood shapes status attainment and social mobility, particularly in the context of rising inequality. He has received grants from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and has pending applications with NIH and MacArthur Foundation. His publications span journals such as Journal of Health and Social Behavior, American Journal of Public Health, and Social Science Research.
